The corporation council meeting, which was convened here on Wednesday, commenced with Mayor L. Sasikala Pushpa thanking the Chief Minister, Jayalalitha, for her stand in the NLC disinvestment issue that prevented private stakeholders to claim stake.

During the schedule, Kottur Raja, DMK councillor of ward 30, said the tax dues from shops in the vegetable market facing Jayaraj road adjacent to the new corporation office have not been collected from the occupants.

He sought the Mayor’s intervention in the issue.

The Mayor replied that such shortcomings were the result of the mismanagement of those who handled the affairs previously and promised to rectify anomalies in the future.

The ordinary meeting with an agenda of 13 subjects lasted for a few minutes in the hall.

Earlier, the councillors were briefed about the significance of rainwater harvesting.

The Mayor, in the presence of Commissioner S. Madhumathi and Deputy Mayor P. Xavier, released a pamphlet explaining the rainwater harvesting methods.

The pamphlets would be distributed to households to adopt necessary measures to conserve rainwater.

Models explaining various rainwater harvesting methods have been displayed at the corporation office.

Officials of various departments in the corporation attended the meeting.
