Tuticorin: The District Panchayat Council meeting was convened at the Collectorate here on Wednesday. N. Chinnadurai, Chairman, District Panchayat Council, who presided over the meeting, gave his approval before the council for renovating the road infrastructure in rural areas.
The re-building of about 96 roads covering a stretch of 262 km in various blocks of the district would be taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana for the next two years.
“The estimate preparation under Bharat Nirman scheme of phase VIII for rebuilding of roads numbering 18 on a stretch of 27.25 km is in progress in the current fiscal.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Chinnadurai said the Central government was according top priority for augmenting rural infrastructure and he expressed the hope that funds would be allotted soon for development of the district through the project.
A team of Block Engineers from the Department of Rural Development had conducted a survey on the core network roads in all blocks to assess the conditions of the pavement.
The conditions were identified inaccessible in the blocks including Kayathar, Kovilpatti, Pudur, Sathankulam, Vilathikulam, Tiruchendur, Tuticorin, Karungulam and Alwarthirunagari.
Based on the assessment of road conditions, the team prioritized the works to be taken up for development.
Besides the expenditure on office related activities were reviewed as part of the programme.
