GOBICHETTIPALAYAM: Cotton cultivation has bright, sunny days ahead, if the plans initiated by the MYRADA-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here are anything to go by.

With the Centre’s support, KVK, an Indian Council for Agriculture Research organisation, has been implementing the Technology Mission on Cotton in Anthiyur. The Mission aims at reviving cotton cultivation. “The plan is to revive cotton cultivation, which has been declining for varied reasons. For example, area under cotton in Erode district has come down from 10,000 hectares to about 500 hectares a couple of years ago," says R. Ashalatha, subject matter specialist at KVK.

She adds that as far as cotton cultivation is concerned, Erode district is important because farmers here cultivate extra long staple cotton which is in good demand. This year KVK has taken up 200 acres for implementing the Mission.
