Tuticorin: The officers of Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch, Custom House, recently seized cosmetic items worth Rs. 50 lakh along with iron rods valued at Rs. 43 lakh and garments at Rs. 30 lakh. The container carrying the consignment of cosmetics arrived from Singapore for despatch to Mumbai.
The consignment, which had been imported without the approval of the brand name owners in violation of intellectual property rights, was seized. It includes branded deodorants, soaps, Commissioner of Customs C. Rajan said. Consequently, eight containers carrying twisted TMT rods ranging from 5 feet to 13 feet as ‘heavy melting scrap’ had been seized. In a bid to evade duty of Rs. 3.75 lakh, the importer had concealed the fact.
