COIMBATORE: Coimbatore Corporation schools have done well in the higher secondary examinations, the results of which were declared on Friday.

Eighty-one per cent students cleared the examinations, which is three points more than last year's. A release from the civic body says 2,061 of the 2,523 students who wrote the examinations from 16 schools cleared them.

Corporation Higher Secondary School, Ramakrishnapuram, secured the top spot with a pass percentage of 97.5. Corporation Higher Secondary School, Peelamedu, emerged second with 94.9 per cent and Corporation Higher Secondary School, R.S. Puram West, third with 94.78.

G. Priyadarshini of the R.S. Puram school won the first rank among corporation school students, securing 1141 out of 1200.

A.M. Kavithra, also from the school, made it to the second spot with 1133. R. Jayakodi of the Oppanakara Street school bagged the third rank with 1126.

The release, quoting Mayor R. Venkatachalam, says the improvement in pass percentage is because of various efforts the civic body initiated in the past year.

Computer, laboratory, projector facilities have been given to the students so that they receive education on a par with their private school counterparts.

Evening classes have also been set up at the Kenwyn corporation school on Mettupalayam Road.

The aim, is to improve the pass percentage and make it 100, the release adds.
