Entry points to Kancheepuram police district, particularly along the Chennai city police domain, will be brought under strict vigilance.

This decision comes in the wake of a recent murder near Sriperumpudur. Talking to reporters on Thursday, S. Manoharan, superintendent of police, said the men who committed the murder had stayed in a residential locality in the southern suburbs of Chennai when plotting the murder.

“They entered the Kancheepuram police district domain, committed the crime and went back to their hideout in the city police limits. Similarly, the men involved in another murder case hailed from a nearby district but stayed in the city police limits before executing their plan,” he said.

Therefore, Mr. Manoharan said, it had been decided to step up vigil on certain routes along the Chennai city border to check the movement of miscreants. It has been proposed to set up new check posts equipped with wireless devices and sand-barrel barricades at the entry points to Kancheepuram police district from the city.

Patrol vehicles will be stationed at some check posts such as Pudunallur on Sriperumpudur-Manimangalam Road. There will also be CCTV surveillance at some check posts, Mr. Manoharan said.
