CHENNAI: Commissioner of Police (CoP) Nanchil Kumaran recently sprang a surprise visit to Vadapalani Police Station recently only to be left surprised himself.

Informed sources told The Hindu that on Saturday when he visited, only a few policemen were present at the station. The absence of the Station House Officer and other subordinate officers prompted the Commissioner to inquire into the whereabouts. However, the replies were not satisfactory.

The mobile patrol vehicle allotted to the jurisdiction officer was parked inside the station. Though the policemen informed the Commissioner that the driver was on leave and hence the vehicle was not in use. The reply visibly irked the Commissioner, sources said. After recording his remarks in the station register, Mr. Kumaran left the place.
