Before conducting polls to societies

MADURAI: The Government should set up an Election Commission exclusively for the cooperatives before conducting elections to the various societies in the State, said the Madurai MP, P. Mohan, here.

Speaking at the 53rd Cooperative Week celebrations recently, he said that the Government should take action to promulgate the model cooperative law. He also lauded the cooperative societies for effectively distributing loans for agriculture and small-scale industries.

Presiding over the function, Collector T. Udhayachandran said that cooperative bodies were an integral part of rural development.

Pointing out the success of Aavin, he appreciated the dairy for attracting officers from other States to know more about its effective finance management.

He insisted on introducing modern technologies to face the stiff challenge. The cooperative bodies would always support farmers and individuals, he said.

Earlier, distributing welfare assistance, A. Tamilarasi, Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare, said that cooperative loans to the tune of Rs.11.61 lakh had been distributed to beneficiaries in Pasukaranpatti, Pappapatti and Keeripatti villages.
