Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju said that the State Government had so far disbursed Rs. 2,300 crore worth of interest-free crop loans to 5.66 lakh farmers through cooperative credit institutions against the target of Rs. 4,000 crore set for the current fiscal.

“Of this, crop loans to the tune of Rs. 107 crore have been given away to 17,467 farmers in Tirupur district alone. The target for interest –free crop loans disbursal for Tirupur district has been pegged at Rs.145 crore for 2012-13 financial year,” he said.

Mr. Sellur Raju told this on Friday while delivering a special address at the district-level celebration held to commemorate the ‘Cooperative Week’, which commenced on November 14.

Godowns

The Minister further said that the State Government had constructed 1,146 godowns under the cooperative framework during the last 10 months.

During the function, 1,269 people received credit assistance for employment and income generation activities.
