TIRUCHI: The Amaravathi Cooperative Stores registered a sales turnover of Rs.15.05 crore during last year (2007-08).

While it sold controlled goods to the tune of Rs.8.70 crore, its sales turnover of un-controlled good was Rs.6.35 crore. In the un-controlled goods front, the stores managed a turnover of Rs.90 lakh more than the previous year, the Joint Registrar and Special Officer of the stores Mounagurusamy said while speaking at its annual general body meeting held here on Sunday.

He said the Stores, started in 1942, accounted for over 61,600 members. A total of 82 fair price shops, both in city and peripheral limits, were attached to it, catering to the needs of about 88,000 ration card-holders.

The Stores also operated six kerosene pumps.

The Stores marketed crackers worth Rs.50 lakh during every Deepavali season.

It procured sugarcane directly from the farmers during the Pongal festival and marketed cane worth about Rs.10 lakh every January. Referring to the future proposal, he said it has been planned to open a self-service wing at its Kailasapuram branch.
