State Food Minister E.V. Velu inaugurated the first medical store established through the cooperative sector at Krishangiri on Saturday.
The store was established through the cooperative sector to bring an end to spurious drugs.
The fully air-conditioned shop was established at a cost of Rs. 14 lakh by the Krishnagiri Agricultural Marketing Society.
The store was established just opposite the Government Headquarters Hospital to serve the poor.
Over 500 medicines, including life-saving medicines, will be available in the store at 15 per cent discount from the maximum retail price quoted by the pharmacy companies.
The store will function on 24/7 basis with two pharmacists and two assistants on rotation basis.
Purchase of over Rs. 500 will be door delivered within the radius of 3 km in the town, cooperative department officials said.
