Nagercoil: Collector Rajendra Kumar has sought the cooperation of leaders of political parties, public, revenue and police for the successful conduct of Lok Sabha elections in Kanyakumari district.

According to him, steps would be taken to set up ramps in all booths to facilitate the physically challenged to cast their votes without any difficulty in 1,333 booths in Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Padmanabhapuram, Colachel, Vilavancode and Killiyoor in Kanyakumari Lok Sabha segment.

The District Rural Development Agency and the Public Woks Department will take care of providing infrastructure in the polling booths situated in Government schools.

Similarly, such facilities would be taken care of by the school managements of respective private schools. All the works would be completed on or before March 25, said the Collector. He warned that stringent action would be initiated against those who violated the model code of conduct. All the banners, flags, cutouts and hoardings should be removed immediately after the conclusion any party meeting in the district. In case of failure to remove them, the district authorities will remove them and the expenses incurred in the process would be recovered from the political party or person responsible for the defacement.

The amount might be added to the expenditure of the candidate and action would be initiated to prosecute the offender.

The Collector said no party or candidate should indulge in any activity which may create differences among communities.

All parties must inform the police about the venue and time of meetings to enable the police to make necessary arrangements for controlling traffic and maintaining law and order, he added.
