NAMAKKAL: The Co-operative department has established a new medical store on Salem – Namakkal main road.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. Gandhiselvan declared open the store at a function held here recently. It was the first medical store established through the Co-operative department in Namakkal district. People could avail themselves of a discount of up to 12 per cent on various medicines in the store.

Later, inaugurating an Agri Clinic in Karkoodalpatti, the Minister said that the clinic would help farmers adopt modern cultivation technologies.

Training programmes on various farming methods, water and soil testing and a number of other services would be extended to the farmers through the clinic.

Farmers should utilise these services to improve the agricultural productivity, he said.

The Central and State governments were implementing a number of programmes for the development of agriculture sector, Mr. Gandhiselvan said and asked the farmers to take full advantage of these programmes.

He distributed loans to the tune of Rs. 35 lakh to the self-help group members for taking up self-employment activities.

He also inspected the agri clinics in Kalappanaickanpatti and Namakiripet. Collector U. Sagayam presided over the function.
