Coimbatore: The Palladam Judicial Magistrate has convicted a person on charges of selling substandard onion seeds to farmers in the area and causing huge loss to them. Following information about marketing of substandard onion seeds in the area, Director of Seed Certification S. Perumal and Assistant Director Tom P. Charles along with a team of Seed Inspectors visited fields in Palladam, Dharapuram and Karadibavi. The crop samples were sent for examination. The report certified that the seeds were genuine only to the extent of 80 per cent. The authorities conducted a raid and seized two kilo grams of substandard seeds.

The officials registered two cases before Palladam Judicial Magistrate and one case before Dharapuram Judicial Magistrate.
