TIRUCHI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday visited the newly-constructed police control room at Cantonment. The control room was declared open by him on Friday.

The Additional Director-General of Police K. Vijay Kumar; the Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) M.S. Jaffar Sait; the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Tiruchi, I. Raja; the Commissioner of Police Shankar Jiwal; the DIG, Tiruchi Range, Ashok Kumardas received the Chief Minister.

Mr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. Jaffar Sait explained that the control room is equipped with all necessary facilities for effective monitoring and supervision. It has sufficient space for the Traffic Regulatory Management System.

The computerised control room will serve as the nodal point from where the movement of the patrol vehicles, which are now fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) and a modem, could be monitored round-the-clock and given suitable directions to a vehicle that was nearby to a troubled spot in case of any emergency. Ministers Arcot N. Veerasamy, M. K. Stalin, Durai Murugan, K. N. Nehru and N. Selvaraj accompanied the Chief Minister.
