To create awareness among school students about The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE), district-level competitions for students were held here on Wednesday.

Organised by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), as many as 172 students from Class I to 12 of all government and government-aided schools participated in various competitions held class wise.

Drawing and oratorical competitions for students between class I and V and oratorical, essay writing and drawing competitions were conducted for students between class VI and VIII. Oratorical, essay writing, drawing and poetry competitions were held for students of class IX to XII.

The organisers said that the theme of the competitions was based on the RTE and its objectives and how students have understood the Act. They added that preliminary competitions were held school-wise and block-wise. Additional Chief Education Officer of SSA J. Maniyammal, and Assistant Project Officer P. Vasanthakumar visited the venue.
