TIRUCHI: The district-level cultural competitions for women’s self- help groups(SHG) organised by the Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Corporation, which concluded on Tuesday, drew an enthusiastic response from the SHGs from all the 14 panchayat unions in the district.

The competitions included rangoli, singing, debate, and drama/street play contests. Collector T.Soundiah commended the winners of the competitions.

The Navalpattu SHG Federation won the first prize in the street play contest while the Irungalur SHG Federation and the Koogur SHG bagged the second and third prize in the category respectively.

In the singing competition, the first prize went to the Allur Panchayat SHG , while the Adavathur Panchayat SHG Federation stood second. The third prize in the category went to the Aniyapur Panchayat SHG Federation. The Keezhakalkandarkottai SHG bagged the first prize in the rangoli contest with the Avoor Panchayat SHG winning the second prize. The third prize in the contest went to the Thevanur Pudur Panchayat SHG.

The first prize in the debate was bagged by the Mekkudi Panchayat SHG and the Paganur Panchayat SHG Federation walked away with the second prize. The Singalanathapuram SHG Federation was adjudged third in the category.

The first prize winners in each contest would be presented with a cheque of Rs.5,000 while the second and third prize winners got Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000.
