In order to bring out the hidden talent among the womenfolk from the rural pockets and semi-urban areas, the district administration organised various competitions here on Saturday as part of Pongal celebrations.
The Mahalir Thittam officials had made elaborate arrangements at the sprawling “Uzhavan Unavagam” campus on New Natham Road near Ramakrishna Mutt.
According to them, the number of competitors was around 500 womenfolk that they participated in “kolam”, public speaking, music, drama and debate competitions. The topics for debate revolved on current issues relating to womenfolk.
Many events were held on January 23 as part of Pongal celebrations and the winners would get Rs 5000 (first prize), Rs 3000 (second) and Rs 2000 for third prize.
Collector Anshul Mishra inaugurated the kolam competition event by lighting a ‘kuthuvilakku’ in the presence of Mahalir Thittam officer S. Purushothaman, Pudu Vazhvu project officer Subash and among others.
