Complain of persistent power disruption, especially during rain

SALEM: Consumers have appealed to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to establish a sub-station in Yercaud to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the hill resort.

Branches fall

At a meeting of the consumer grievances redressal forum, Salem Electricity Distribution Circle (SEDC), TNEB, here on Wednesday, a consumer said power supply to Yercaud was disrupted frequently for long hours, particularly during rainy days. The tree branches fell on cables during rainy and windy days, affecting the power supply. The TNEB workers found it difficult to attend to faults during such days. The process of tracing out the faults in the forests consumed a lot of time. As a result, workers faced problems in restoring power supply immediately.

If a substation was established in Yercaud, officials could minimise the incidence of power cuts, and attend to faults quickly. The TNEB now provided power supply to Yercaud from Karuppur substation.

Proposal

In response, the Superintendent Engineer, SEDC, TNEB, V. Subramanian, who chaired the meeting, said a proposal to establish another power supply line to the hill resort was under consideration. It was proposed to establish a sub-station in Hasthampatti, and create a new power supply line from there to Yercaud. This new line would serve as an alternative to the existing line from Karuppur substation, and ensure uninterrupted power supply to Yercaud.

On the demand to establish a substation in Yercaud, he said the demand would be taken to the notice of the State Government.

Mr. Subramanian said TNEB had also proposed to establish two more substations in Utharagoundampalayam and Kandampatti. The members of the forum, A. Anbazhagan and Govindaraj, and executive engineers of TNEB were present at the meeting.
