Governments should initiate measures to control prices, they say
SALEM: Construction workers staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate on Monday protesting against the steep increase in the prices of construction materials.
Protesting under the banner of Tamizhaga Kattada Thozhilalargal Pothunala Mathiya Munnetra Sangam, they claimed that prices of cement, steel, sand, brick, blue metal and other construction materials witnessed a steep increase in the recent past. A large number of workers were rendered jobless due to the increase in the prices. The construction industry was facing serious problems due to the escalating cost of materials. The Central and State governments should initiate immediate measures to control the prices, they said.
They also wanted the State Government to provide free house site pattas. The monthly pension amount should be increased. Health insurance and education assistance should be provided to the construction workers, they demanded.
