NAGERCOIL: The long-pending demand of the people had been fulfilled with the allocation of Rs.1.13 cores for construction of a pedestrian subway from Anna Bus Stand to Sir. C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer Park.

The work began on Tuesday with the conduct of boomi pooja .

To facilitate smooth flow of traffic to and from Anna Bus Stand, the municipality and district traffic committee have introduced alternative thoroughfares, which would be followed until completion of the work. The parking facility at tower junction has been removed. Kottar-Ozugunaserry, Kattabomman junction, and Superintendent of Police Office Road have been made one way.

Speaking to the presspersons, the chairman of Nagercoil Municipal Council, Asokan Solomon, said that the municipality had deposited a sum of Rs. 60 lakh for the implementation of the project in the first phase, which would be executed by the Department of Highways. The rest would be deposited before the start of the work in the second phase.

The work will be completed with in three months, added the chairman of the municipal council.
