It is being built at an outlay of Rs. 90 lakh under public-private partnership
Dharmapuri: The construction of a multipurpose indoor stadium with state-of-the art facilities in Dharmapuri is in the final stages of completion. With no proper stadium in Dharmapuri district, students were finding it difficult to pursue any kind of sports activity making it imperative for the setting up of an indoor stadium.
According to Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal, preliminary works had been completed and the stadium would come up within three months at an outlay of Rs. 90 lakh under public-private partnership.
The sports infrastructure in the stadium would suit a wide range of requirements starting from community-level sports meet to international competitions. Sodium vapour lamps had been erected in the stadium to provide a better ambience, he said.
The multipurpose sports stadium would consist of indoor playfield, a boxing ring, and courts for badminton, basketball, volleyball and kabbadi.
The badminton court was in the final stages of completion. Construction of a multipurpose gymnasium would be taken up shortly, he said.
A multipurpose hall, which could also be used as a dormitory for sportspersons, is also being constructed in the complex. In addition to this, construction of a main pavilion and viewers’ gallery with a seating capacity of 500 will be started shortly.
Efforts were on to provide all facilities in the stadium so that it could be converted into a sports training centre, Mr. Bansal added.
