TARAMANGALAM: A group of businessmen in this part of the district have decided to modernise the weaving units to produce value-added products from the yarn-dyed woven fabric.

"Taramangalm area has a number of power loom units. Almost all the units are functioning with very old machineries. Owners of these units are reluctant to modernise by installing auto looms such as the shuttleless loom individually. Hence, we have decided to form a consortium and establish a modern weaving unit. We are also going in for value addition. We will set up a woven garment unit and convert the fabric produced here into apparel and tap the export market," one of the Directors of the company M. Vaiyapuri said.

About 100 businessmen have joined together in this venture and formed a company called `Tarai Fabric and Garments India Limited'. Initially the company will install 100 sewing machines and function in a rented building. A training facility will also be established to satisfy the manpower requirements of the company.

"We will complete the company's registration process shortly. We are planning to commence the production in a month's time. We have consulted experts in the textile committee for production and marketing," Mr. Vaiyapuri added.
