Tuticorin: N. Sankaranarayanan (31), a Congress party worker, was attacked in Arumuganeri in the district on Wednesday night around 10.30 p.m.

Sankaranarayanan, who was injured in the attack, was admitted to the Government Hospital, Tuticorin, on Thursday.

S.D.R Vijayaseelan, a senior Congress Party representative, said that Sankaranarayanan, a resident of Arumuganeri, was attacked when he was involved in carrying out the enrolment activities for the membership of Youth Congress.

He also alleged that Suresh, the Town Secretary, DMK, Arumuganeri, was involved in the attack.

Following the incident, the cadres of Congress blocked the road traffic for about an hour condemning the attack.

The police pacified the agitators, who later dispersed. The representatives of Congress, along with the injured met the Superintendent of Police, T. Senthil Kumar on Thursday and lodged a complaint.
