The Congress will demand a share in power in the State, irrespective of party with which it has alliance in the coming Assembly elections, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, former Union Minister, said here on Thursday.

Without making any direct reference to any party, he told reporters that the Congress would like to hold a prime position in the government. “The opinion of party cadre on alliance has been conveyed to the high command, which will take a decision after considering various aspects.”

Mr. Elangovan thanked Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for announcing that the Government Hospital in Chennai would be named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. “It was a long-pending demand of the Congress workers.”
