Plea for permission to conduct survey in forest area for a railway line
ERODE: More than 200 Congress members led by district president Kallipatty Balu went in a procession on Tuesday from Sathyamangalam taluk office to District Forest Officer's (DFO) office.
They submitted a memorandum to the DFO requesting the forest department to grant permission to the railway authorities for a survey in the Thalawady forest area to lay a railway line connecting Chamrajnagar and Sathyamangalam.
The project has been delayed for the last two years owing to the delay in granting permission. If the scheme of linking Chamrajnagar with Sathyamangalam was implemented, the economic status of Sathyamangalam would improve. The tribal people would also be benefited.
The memorandum said the laying of railway line and operation of trains would not affect the animal population in the area. The Congress volunteers said they had collected more than 5,000 signatures in and around Sathyamangalam urging the forest department to allow the survey.
