ATTUR: Four Congress members of the Attur Municipal council staged a walk out in the council meeting held here on Wednesday complaining that they were not included in the town planning committee of the municipality.

They charged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had neglected them from including in the committee.

The AIADMK councillors alleged that the municipal officials were not discussing with them for the preparation of under ground drainage project for the town.

Meanwhile, Council Chairperson Pongodi (DMK) presented a deficit budget for the year 2007-08 in the council. The municipality was expecting revenue of Rs. 7.68 crore in the coming financial year against expenditure of Rs. 8.41 crore, thus leaving a deficit of Rs. 73 lakh. Municipal Commissioner Elangovan and senior officials were present.

Welfare assistance

Collector N. Mathivanan distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 6 lakh to 60 beneficiaries under various schemes at Omallur recently.

After auditing the accounts in the Taluk office, he handed over distress relief fund to 40 beneficiaries and assistance to 20 persons under the agriculture labourers and farmers social security scheme.
