Tiruchi: The Federation of Welfare Organisations has urged the State government to conceive an outer ring road scheme around Tiruchi in view of the growing vehicular population. In a memorandum to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, its coordinator N. Ramakrishnan said an outer ring road would ease congestion. This would also connect places including Suriyur, Manikandam, Neithalur, Jeeyapuram, Melur and Tiruvellarai and enable the development of rural areas as well.

The memorandum also appealed to the state government to make the stretch from Mambazha Salai to Kollidam Tollgate as a four-lane. The railway over bridge at Tiruvanakoil should be widened and a new bridge should be constructed across the Kollidam.
