CHENNAI: Local Administration Minister will shortly distribute 844 computers to all Chennai Corporation schools, Mayor M. Subramanian said here on Monday.
The computers will be purchased at a cost of Rs.2.3 crore. Students would receive training in using computers as the skill was required in several sectors these days, he added.
Mr. Subramanian launched a training programme in computer skills for Corporation primary and middle school teachers on Monday. Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu would train the teachers, who would in turn teach the students. The civic body would spend Rs.2,500 per teacher as training costs. In the first phase, about 500 teachers would receive the training.
The Mayor urged teachers to use their newly-acquired skills to enhance the learning experience for students. School principals and teachers who had helped Class X and XII students achieve high scores would be given cash prizes. A sum of Rs.4.42 lakh would be distributed among teachers who had helped students score well in the 2008 public examinations.
