SALEM: The Salem Corporation has opened a computerised centre for issuing birth/death certificates at the office of the sanitary inspector in Dathagapatti here on Thursday.

Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini inaugurated the centre. The initiative would help people get the birth/death certificates quickly. The civic body had already opened a similar centre at the Salem Government Medical College Hospital.

Three more centres would be opened this month. The Corporation had also planned to open similar centres in all the ward offices to speed up the issue of birth/death certificates, officials said.

The computerised system for the issue of birth and death certificates would be implemented in a full-fledged manner from October 1, the officials added.
