MADURAI: Excision of aneurysm, a complex surgery was performed on a 50-year-old woman, Karuppayee, at the Apollo Speciality Hospital here last week.
She was suffering from swelling in the left side of her neck for about a year.
Diagnosed with a medical condition known as `aneurysm' (weakening of the blood vessel wall), if left untreated, it could have caused severe damage to the brain, claimed doctors at the hospital.
A team of doctors, led by N. Durai Raj, a vascular surgeon, performed the operation, in which the defect was rectified.
This has enabled the patient to return to normal condition.
