Collector P. Seetharaman on Thursday gave away a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh each to the families of six persons who died in rain-related incidents in the district.

The victims included S. Veeramani (15), R. Satish (16) and K. Muthuraja (15) who were struck dead by lightning while having a bath in the Veeraperumanallur lake near here on Wednesday.

Three members of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Workers' Welfare Board, A. Anjalai (37), D. Amudha (33) and P. Pari (45), had also been killed in lightning.

While compensation for the first incident was given from the Natural Disaster Funds, funds were provided for the second incident from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Workers' Welfare Board.

The families of the welfare board members were also given Rs. 2,500 each for meeting the funeral expenses. The Collector also handed over Rs. 1,000 each to 22 families whose houses were damaged in the rain, Rs. 10,000 as compensation to the owner of a milch animal that died in lightning and Rs. 2,000 to the owner of a goat that was killed.
