The closure of ticket reservation counters on the western end of Tirunelveli Railway Junction on Sundays reportedly due to paucity of personnel to man the facility mounts pressure on the reservation counters in the main building.

Though the Southern Railways has established ticket reservation counters at two points in the Tirunelveli Railway Junction and one more facility is functioning from the Palayamkottai ward office of Tirunelveli Corporation, all these reservation counters attract huge crowd everyday. Against this backdrop, the ticket reservation counter at the western entrance, normally functioning only between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. even as the similar facility in the main building reserve tickets from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., is closed on Sundays reportedly due to shortage of personnel, affecting the passengers badly. “Permission has been granted to close this counter on Sundays owing to paucity of manpower. Situation may worsen further as some of our staff have been either transferred from Tirunelveli or promoted, which means the existing staff strength will go down in near future,” southern railway sources here said.
