MADURAI: A proposal has been sent to the Central Government seeking an exclusive brand for handicrafts to create a market for indigenous products at international level, S. Rajagopal, Managing Director, Small Industries Product Promotion Organisation (SIPPO), has said.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, he said that the Government had responded positively to the plea and even agreed in principle for the creation of a brand like what it had been done in the case of handloom textiles. The Centre had sent the proposal to the National Institutes of Design and Fashion Technology to create a design that would facilitate effective marketing of handicraft products at several international destinations.
