"Cuddalore is doing well in implementing schemes"
CUDDALORE: Special committees would be formed to formulate schemes for the hearing-impaired and the speech-impaired to enable them to lead independent lives, Social Welfare Minister A. Poongothai said here on Thursday. Ms. Poongothai told reporters after reviewing the implementation of social welfare schemes, that the district was doing well in implementing schemes for the physically challenged and women. No schemes were pending for implementation. After inspecting kitchens in anganwadis, she felt they needed to be modernised.
Earlier, the Minister visited the Sevai Illam, where 70 children orphaned by tsunami have been accommodated.
She interacted with them and enquired about their studies and the facilities at the Illam. She tasted the food prepared there and directed officials to maintain quality.
She visited a school at Enikkaran Thottam, a coastal hamlet, where she planted a sapling.
