The Assembly Petitions Committee held a sitting at Pudukottai on Friday to take up 70 petitions received from the public for consideration.
Speaking at the meeting, P.Mohan, chairman of the committee, said immediate action has been initiated on 55 of the petitions and the petitioners have been given replies.
Mr.Mohan expressed satisfaction over the implementation of development works and welfare schemes in the district.
The State government has allotted Rs.40 crore for strengthening roads in the district. This apart, Rs.9.50 crore has been sanctioned from the XIII Finance Commission funds. Works were also underway on construction of additional classrooms and improvements to basic amenities in government schools at a cost of Rs.75.75 lakhs. Collector B.Maheswari, K.P.Krishnan, C.Vijayabhaskar, P.K.Vairamuthu, M.Rajanayagam and S.P.Muthukumaran,MLAs, and officials attended the meeting.
Mr.Mohan and committee members P.Ganesan, R.N.Kittusamy, D.Suresh Kumar and A.Ramasamy, MLAs, inspected the Government Rani's Maternity Hospital in the town and the Government Model Higher Secondary School at Machuvadi.
