Salem Corporation to get new head
In a surprise move the Public Department of Tamil Nadu government has transferred the Commissioner of Salem Corporation S. Prabhakaran, who assumed charge here just a week ago. No reason has been given for his sudden transfer.
Prabhakaran, who got transferred from Coimbatore Corporation where he served as a Deputy Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation, assumed office only last Wednesday. He succeeded Dr. K. S. Palanisamy, who has been conferred IAS and is waiting for a suitable posting.
Prabhakaran, since the day of his joining, has shown special interest in the area of tax collection so that the revenue of the civic body could be augmented.
He has activated the entire official machinery to collect the staggering tax arrears of Rs. 35 crore pending for long.
Within a week, the intense drive has yielded revenue of Rs. 2.5 crore to the Corporation, sources claim.
He has initiated a few stringent measures to make the employees work and has undertaken the supervising personally.
The work schedules of various departments including the Health Department has been put under the scanner since there are complaints galore from its citizens saying that the city is stinking with garbage mounds and overflowing sewers.
A highly-placed source claimed that at about 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Commissioner received a fax message that conveyed his transfer order to Kanyakumari as its District Revenue Officer.
“Of course it is quite a shock for me. Hardly a week has passed since I have taken over charge here.
“I will be joining duty at Kanyakumari in 10 days,” he said.
Mr. Natarjan, who was transferred a week ago to Perambalur as DRO from Cuddalore district, is expected to be posted here as the Corporation Commissioner.
