Tirupur: Nearly 1,600 students of LRG College of Arts and Science for Women staged a sit-in strike demanding filling up of vacant positions of teaching faculty.

According to agitated students, posts of teachers in courses such as B.Com, B.Com (Computer Applications) and Computer Science were lying vacant, affecting their academic interests. . Students maintained that close to 50 positions of teaching faculty were lying vacant. The Revenue officials who held talks with the students assured them that their representatives could meet the Collector.

They were also assured that the district administration would take up the matter with the authorities. Following assurances that things would be improve within a week, students gave up the agitation.

While the classes resumed for the other 1,400 odd students, the authorities said that classes would resume next week for nearly 150 students in some of the courses that had high number of vacancies of teachers.
