TIRUCHI: The Collector, Ashish Vachhani, on Monday convened a meeting of representatives of political parties in the run-up to the conduct of local body elections.
The party representatives were informed about the tentative number of polling booths and their location, as listed in the offices of Municipalities, Panchayat Unions, Panchayats, and wards.
After eliciting their views, the district administration will arrive at the final number of polling booths on August 14, the Collector told them, and apprised them about the code of conduct for the local body elections.
Among the participants, the Deputy Mayor, M. Anbalagan, and P. Samiayyah represented the DMK, and K.V.S. Induraj the CPI (M) while M.S. Logidasan and P. Parthiban represented the BJP.
The Collector held discussion with the Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi Rural, Ashok Kumar Das, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, N. Rajasekaran, to chart out security measures, and with electoral officers to review poll preparedness.
The Corporation Commissioner, B. Balachandran, and senior district officials, including the District Revenue Officer, P. Senthil Kumar, and the Project Officer of District Rural Development Agency, P. Anand Raj, were present at the meeting.
