SALEM: Collector J. Chandrakumar distributed prizes to the students, who were rescued from the clutches of child labour and mainstreamed in regular schools, for having scored high marks in the SSLC examinations here recently.

P. Rangarajan, who studied in the Tirumalaigiri Smile Special School and Vedukathampatti Government high School, scored 445 marks. K. Sabarinathan, who studied in the Sivadapuram Smile Special School before joining the Sivadapuram Government Higher Secondary School, scored 431 marks.

The Collector, congratulating the two students, presented them with prizes and encouraged them to continue their studies. Project Director P. Viswanathan and senior officials were present.

A total of 110 students, who were rescued from the clutches of child labour, appeared for the SSLC examinations in the academic year 2008-09. Of them, 89 students emerged successful. A total of 12 students secured over 400 marks and 30 students scored more than 300 marks.
