An electrician working on a Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) project in Ashok Nagar, was found dead at a construction site on Monday. Police suspect he slipped and fell off a crane.

Police said the victim Lingesan (27), a resident of Susaiappar Street in Tambaram, was on duty at the CMRL construction site in First Avenue, Ashok Nagar. Around 2.30 a.m. on Monday, a security guard spotted his body with severe head injuries. He alerted CMRL staff who later called the police.

Police believe Lingesan attempted to climb the crane, which was on an overhead rail line, and slipped and fell to the ground.

His body was sent to the Government Royapettah hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A CMRL official said, “We have come to know that the person was a worker engaged by Larsen & Toubro. He was an electrician who was on duty, at the site. However, no work was going on at that time, so we are waiting for the post-mortem report to find out what exactly happened.”
