To be constructed at a cost of Rs.20.10 crore

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of Manimandapam for Karikalcholan at the Grand Anicut in Thanjavur district through video conferencing from Chennai. It will be constructed at a cost of Rs.20.10 crore.

The Chief Minister had made the announcement on the construction of the 4,000-sq.ft manimandapam during the inauguration of the memorial for Pennycuick (who constructed the Mullaperiyar Dam) at lower camp in Theni district on January 15, 2013. The Chief Minister also inaugurated the 200-bed Meenakshi Hospital in Thanjavur through video conferencing.

N. Sethuraman, chairman of the hospital, said that the hospital has 15 major specialities and 24-hour emergency accidents and trauma care unit. Savithiri Gopal, chairperson, Thanjavur Municipality, and Parasuraman, president, Neelagiri Panchayat, participated.
