The Salem district unit of the Tamil Nadu Brahmins' Association (TAMBRAS) distributed new clothes to the poor people to mark Deepavali festival. Members of the association also gave away clothes to the differently-abled.
District president K. Sairam presided over the simple function in which the clothes were distributed.
The Senior Manager, Canara Bank, Alagalpuram, Salem was the chief guest. After distributing the clothes, he lauded the efforts of TAMBRAS in the field of social work.
The association's commitment to the uplift of the poor in all communities and caste groups was appreciated by all.
Tamil Nadu Hotel Owners' Association vice-president K.R. Subramaniam, TAMBRAS treasurer V. Sugavanam and general secretary R. Srinivasan spoke on the occasion. Women's wing secretary Usha Srinivasan and others had made elaborate arrangements for the distribution function.
Rev. S. Singaroyan, Bishop of Salem, in his festival message said that Deepavali should promote mutual respect, trust and tolerance among people.
Meanwhile, a press release from Holy Angels' Matriculation HSS, Salem, said that Deepavali celebrations would be held on the school premises on Thursday in which Veerapandi MLA A. Raja would be the chief guest.
