Around 110 volunteers from ‘Hindu Aalaya Paathugappu Kuzhu’ were engaged in a clean-up drive on all Chithirai streets around the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple here on Sunday.

Students and people cutting across all age groups from different walks of life took part.

“I have been taking part in the religious service for the past 8 years,” said Kumar, a volunteer. Once during my visit to Meenakshi temple I saw people cleaning up the premises. Then I felt that I should do my bit to keep it clean and tidy. So I volunteered to joined the team,” he added.

The 189th drive conducted by the Madurai-based voluntary organisation started around 9 a.m. and culminated at 2 p.m.
