"Kaun Banega Goodness - Billionaire Contest" from December 31 midnight
TIRUCHI: Heard of the popular game show "Kaun Banega Crorepati" telecast in the small screens. But what about "Kaun Banega Goodness - Billionaire Contest".
If you thought it was yet another show of a similar nature to be telecast in the 'idiot box' shortly, you are mistaken.
This contest has been conceived by the City Commissioner of Police Prateep V. Philip with the objective of honouring those who carry out exemplary acts in their daily life beyond the call of duty.
It is meant for police personnel (serving in the city as well as in Tiruchi range), 'Friends of Police' and public.
"It is a contest for goodness", says Mr. Philip, the brain behind the Friends of Police (FOP) movement and community policing.
A five-member jury, headed by the Commissioner of Police and comprising those from service organisations, would identify and honour one policeman, one FOP and a member of the public for their "exemplary act" beyond the call of duty connected with "public safety, wellness, happiness, harmony and peacefulness".
Once a month, the jury would handpick a policeman, FOP and public who would all be recognised and suitably awarded.
Movement to imbibe values
It is to create a movement to imbibe values and recognise the public and policemen for their contribution to society.
Many a time, good things and services go unnoticed and unrecognised. This contest is more to recognise the unsung heroes for their contribution to society, Mr. Philip said.
A "good works" register would be maintained in all city police stations and those coming within the range. A policeman could record his "exemplary act" in the register.
Exemplary acts by FOP
The exemplary act of a FOP would be brought to the notice of the jury through the FOP co-ordinators, while the general public could directly write about the exemplary act they carried out to the Commissioner directly.
The contest to pick out the best comes into effect from December 31 midnight, he added.
