: Tension prevailed at Kadayanallur in the district on Thursday following a clash between two groups of Muslims over the construction of a madrasa, which is also used for offering prayers.

When the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath recently established a madrasa at Kadayanallur Pettai, the existing Jamaath of this area allegedly opposed it. As a group of people assembled at the madrasa on Thursday around 11 a.m., it led to heated argument between the two groups, which led to stone pelting, injuring six persons from both sides. Special Sub-Inspector of Police, Esakki, was also injured.

Superintendent of Police Vijayendra S. Bidari rushed to the spot and additional police personnel were deployed.

Normality returned around 3 p.m. following a conciliatory talk organised by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Puliyangudi, Vaanamaamalai, between the two groups.
