Mayor flags off the dumper bin placers
: In its efforts to keep Madurai city clean, the Corporation has fabricated stainless steel (SS) dumper bins, including 12 huge ones, to cater to crowded places like markets and bus stands.
Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa flagged off the dumper bin placers with the new SS dumper bins at the Corporation lorry shed.
Among them were 125 compactor dumper bins and 12 three-tonners. The bins have been designed and fabricated by the Madurai Corporation at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh.
Deputy Mayor R. Gopalakrishnan, Commissioner (in-charge) Arumuga Nainar, City Health Officer Subramanian were present.
This is the first time a SS dumper bin with a capacity to hold three tonnes of garbage has been fabricated, City Engineer A. Madhuram said. The stainless steel dumper bins would not get corroded and would be stronger and have longer life. It could be repaired in Corporation workshop.
Plastic compactor bins were many times broken or damaged with miscreants setting the garbage on fire.
Stating that the bigger SS bins had three times the capacity of the normal bins, the City Engineer said that it would not only save space, but also the fuel expenses in transporting garbage to the dump yard in Vellaikkal.
At present, six to eight smaller bins were kept in the Central Vegetable Market. The dumper bin placers had to make three trips from the market to Vellaikkal. But, now the same quantity of garbage could be removed in two trips, he added.
The Corporation already has two single bin dumper placers that could be used for this, he added.
The Mayor has proposed to place these bigger dumper bins at the Mattuthavani Integrated Bus stand, flower market, Tirupparankundram, Chinna Anupanadi.
