City boy qualifies for International Spelling Bee contest in Nepal

CHENNAI: M. Srivatsan, a class VI student of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram in the city has won MaRRS International Spelling Bee contest, conducted in association with Cambridge University Press, at the national level.

He will compete at the international level of the competition to be held in Nepal in October.

Srivatsan was selected from 250 students at the school level, 150 contestants at the district level, 200 students at the State level that was held in Salem and 300 students from 18 States at the national level round held in Trissur.

He came first in district and State level contest, and 11th in the national level.

Tests

He was tested on word formation skills, idoms, crossword solving, synonyms, antonyms and oral dictation, a release from the school said.
