Threatens to “occupy” labour office

MADURAI: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has threatened to “occupy” the Labour Department office here if the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers’ Welfare Board did not function properly.

Not implemented

CITU Madurai urban district office-bearers meeting which was held here on Thursday said that the State government’s direction issued in 2008 to scrutinise the applications seeking registration with the board within one month of the submission was not being implemented by the Labour office in Madurai.

B. Vickraman, district secretary, said that identity cards were yet to be issued for those applications that were submitted much before the direction was issued by the State government.

Though various assistances through the board was being given to certain extent, disposal of applications seeking maternity assistance, marriage assistance and for natural deaths were getting delayed.

The applications given in 2007 remained bundled in sacks at the Anna Nagar Section Office ever since the board office was shifted.
