For “building a competitive institution for sustainable growth

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Coimbatore Chapter, in association with CII Institute of Quality, Bangalore, will host the 10th edition of the regional summit on ‘Quality in Education’ here on November 23 and 24.

The summit, with the theme “Building a Competitive Institution for Sustainable Growth” will have experts from academia and industry deliberating upon the theme.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, S.K. Sundararaman, Vice-Chairman of the Coimbatore Chapter, said the theme had been chosen with its relevance to higher education, not only in the present context, but also for the future.

“Since accreditation is a major yardstick to assess quality of education, it makes more sense to focus on this besides other parameters for institutions to become competitive. Heads of various accreditation bodies will be present during the inaugural session. Some concrete outcomes are expected, both in terms of knowing what the industry wants from the academia, and how the latter can meet those expectations,” he said.

Sheela Ramachandran, Co-Convenor, Education and III Panel of CII Coimbatore, said the summit would consist of seven sessions, spread over two days, which would be handled by experts from India and abroad.

They would focus on making Indian higher education institutions globally competitive, improving research, consultancy and publication, promoting IPR and patents, integrating technology, empowering faculty, leveraging stakeholders involved in education, and last but not the least industry-institution interaction.

The highlights would include, the release of a white paper on ‘Framework on Industry-Institute Interface’ jointly prepared by the manufacturing and education panels of CII Coimbatore, release of a manual consisting of select case studies prepared by faculty during the Teachers’ Day competitions, presentations by winning colleges of the AICTE-CII Survey, and a dinner hosted by the Australian Trade Commission.

The summit would be inaugurated by S.S. Mantha, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education. Y.S. Rajan, Chairman of the National Board of Accreditation, will deliver the keynote address, while S. Chandrasekhar, Chairman of the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training.

It will begin at 9 a.m. on November 23 and will be held at The Residency.
